ALLOW ME TO BE RIDICULOUSLY EXCITED!
WAOHOFHWOJF:LSKDJFpoiuweqrlkdjf; <-- This is me because it's almost winter break over here! I'm so excited. School has been tough lately, but mostly because I've become lazy. I promise I'll be better next year, 2012!
Anyway, I've recently realized that it's almost the holidays, and next month will be my birthday! Even though winter can be really bitter cold, all these things make it bearable. I feel like this holiday is going to be rather peaceful, less all the work I have to do.
SPEAKING OF WORK, I finished a bunch of IB work, so I feel a little more on track, though my grades are somewhat slipping >____> But mostly in stupid classes, so it's okay haha.
Anyway, I'm also in a good mood because two of my really good friends got accepted into their early action schools! One got into Stanford, and the other one into Princeton :) I'm so proud of them both!
But I guess everyone talking about colleges has gotten me thinking about them too (I'm only a junior, so I apply next year). I haven't really figured anything out, but after doing a bit of research, I've come to think that King's College, Cambridge would be the perfect school for me, if I can get in... >___> We'll see how I do on my IB tests this year. But I'm a little bit worried because it IS an international school, which certainly complicates things for me. If anyone in the UK has any advice for applications to UK schools, that would be fantastic and much appreciated :)
Anyway, are any of you at the college-able age? How are your apps going, and have you gotten into any of the schools you want to go to?
And how are your holidays going? I hope they're going well! I do promise to respond to comments in this post, so post away!

What is going on with VB Rose?
Many people have been asking me questions about VB Rose recently, even though I put up an explanation in the last chapter I released. I actually do write about important things there...
Tokyopop has been closed down, which means that VB Rose has been dropped as a license in the US. Thus, volumes 13 and 14 remain unpublished in the US. I cannot get access to them ever. They will need to be translated from their original language (Japanese). There are also Chinese scans available that I could translate, but at the moment I'm much too busy to attempt that. I believe that there is a group willing to eventually translate VB Rose. It will eventually be translated, but do not expect the same rapid releases that have been happening.
Vol. 12 is still to be scanned. I will get it as soon as I can, and scan it, but sitting down and scanning 200 pages is not an easy task, so also do not anticipate this to happen very quickly.
In short, please be patient (and I would appreciate it if you did stop sending me emails as well).

Books
I've always been an avid reader, ever since I was a kid, and I think it's truly amazing when you stumble upon a book that just wrenches your heart right out of your chest cavity. It's a feeling that's hard to put into words, but if you've ever felt it, I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.
Of course, I'm probably still looking for THE BOOK of my lifetime, but I've certainly come across many that I've felt a real emotional connection with. A little bit ago, I just finished reading John Green's Looking for Alaska. I know I'm pretty late on reading this book, because I always assumed it was another stupid trendy book, but I recently (within the last few months), started watching vlogbrothers, which is a channel made by John Green and his brother Hank Green. I heard him narrate the chapter of his newest books (which incidentally will be released on my birthday!), and so I decided to check out some of his books because I was so impressed by his writing.
I know this isn't manga or anything, but Looking for Alaska is so raw and real, partly because it comes from Green's own experiences, I think, but it really is an extraordinary book, and I think the fact that my birthday is a significant date in this book (funny coincidence, huh?), I'm even more drawn to it.
So, my question to all of you is, if you read, have you found THE BOOK? Green describes it in his new book, but I'm going to share a description by Lemony Snicket:
"Think of that secret favorite book of yours - not the one you tell people you like best, but that book so good that you refuse to share it with people because they'd never understand it. Perhaps it's not even a whole book, just a tiny portion that you'll never forget as long as you live. Nobody knows you feel this way about that tiny portion of literature."
Certainly this kind of book makes me want to crawl into the author's skin and absorb every single facet of his thoughts and process.
If you care to share, please share it. If you either do not want to share, or have not yet found it, which books have really impacted you in some way, whether emotionally, intellectually, or philosophically?

Uhm hello, everyone.
Uhm, hi guys :D HELLO, I just got back from a really fun local write-in! I had a ton of fun this month, and I definitely look forward to... revising (ugh). To everyone else working on NaNoWriMo, I wish you the best of luck!
So what does this mean for KatScans? Definitely more chapters, and faster! So thank you so much for everyone who's been patietn with the recent chapter slowdown. I'm feeling really good today right now after finishing a chapter of The One, and finishing my 50k for 2011 NaNoWriMo. Whoooooooooooo! Accomplishments today:

Flash Mobs
Being bored and on the internet, I came across the concept of FLASH MOBS, which if you don't know are basically a gathering of people breaking out into spontaneous demonstration in some sort of public area. I immediately spent hours watching different flash mobs taking place, and I was astounded by the human cooperation that I saw. I felt like they were something so completely amazing.
Here is an example of a flash mob:
I'm so impressed that PEOPLE, just PEOPLE are able to pull of such things. It's really incredible to me, especially if you see the larger flash mobs that have thousands of people in them. Really, I can't believe how amazing humanity is. Even if I begin to feel disgusted and cynical, there is always something that will surprise me.
I just thought I'd share this with you, because these things are really cool, but also a great example of how cooperation can lead to awesome things.

So what have I been doing with my time?
I guess I owe you a brief explanation/personal post about what I've been up to lately, minus things boring things/personal things :D Anyway, I've been bogged down in schoolwork. There's just so much STUFF. It's not even homework, really. It's a bunch of other things. I'm in this program called IB, or International Baccalaureate, and for every diploma candidate to pass, he has to write a long paper called an Extended Essay, and I recently actually SWITCHED topics, so I had to start from scratch.
I'm writing about the freedom of thought in 1984 and Fahrenheit 451, and I really love my topic, so it's actually been less painful than I thought it would be. I've actually just finished a complete first draft, though it still needs a lot of work, but it's actually going pretty smoothly.
But the thing that really is taking up my time is NaNoWriMo. GRR. I love doing it so much, but there are days that I just feel so disheartened. I think it honestly might have been a mistake to do it again this year, considering that it takes away from all my time to do other things, but it is really rewarding to do it. It just leaves me 0 time for any other things.
If anybody else is doing NaNoWriMo, I WOULD LOVE TO ADD YOU AS A WRITING BUDDY :D I'm alice-in-vunderland.
Also, I'd like to thank Auyri for her extraordinary help in cleaning the last chapter of The One. You may or may not have noticed that the raws are terrible, but she made them look absolutely decent. I'm so thankful for her, because it was so stressful for me to get things done, and it was truly a big help. She's also working on a project of her own, a translation from a Korean manhwa, "Suspicious Scandal." I'll do an entire full post on that later, but hopefully this should give you something to check out later :)
Other than that, I've just been busy with extracurriculars and everything mashed together in one whole giant packed schedule. I feel like going to mandatory things somehow sucks up all my time. What has everyone else been up to? Is November a busy month for everyone else (I feel like it usually is for most people!)
What else do I have to say? hmmm. I can't wait for the breaks in November. I need some sleeeeeeeeeeeeep. Comment me below! I promise I will reply. Feel free to get mad at me if I don't. Also, vote in the poll ----->

Just to be clear...
So a lot of people comment thanking "you guys" for all the hard work. I would like to comment that this scanslation group is mostly a solo project! I do occasionally pull in cleaners for "The One," but I work alone in general :) It is interesting to me how many people assume I'm a big army of scanslators hahaha!
Anyway, I feel like I haven't done a personal post in a really long time. So I just started junior year of high school, and it is INCREDIBLY BORING. I really liked my classes last year, and I had fantastic teachers that were really fun to work with. I end up being bored by most of my classes these days, which of course is not a great feeling.
And to add on to that, there are tons of busy work homeworks which makes me angry D< It sucks that your first and last few classes are really boring because there's nothing to look forward to after lunch. It's so sad.
Because we're so bored, and we're cool, our English class actually devised this game called "Word of the Day." We pick a random word and try to use it during class discussion. It's hilarious and makes our classes a little more exciting. THAT'S how bored we are. But that's all right I suppose.
So it is now October, and I'm INCREDIBLY excited for Halloween. You don't even know how ridiculously excited I am for this holiday. I don't even know what I'm going to dress up as, but the thought of Halloween is so wonderful. I really want to watch Rocky Horror Picture Show with friends :)
Also, want to know something awesome? Our school decided our homecoming theme was HARRY POTTER. If you know me, you'll know how much I love Harry Potter--I basically grew up with this series, and Harry Potter was seriously one of the best friends I had as a kid. This sounds incredibly sad, but it's sort of true... Anyway, I'm super excited because I might go to laser tag with some friends. AHHH SO AWESOME.
Basically, autumn is the best season ever, though it did start raining recently. Poopoo. And I have to bike part of the way to school, so that makes my commute extra fun! Whoohoo! I hope everyone else is having a great season. Let me know in the comments what you're up to lately!

Summer Adventures
Hey guys, so I did say I would do a blog post about how Mathcamp went, so here it is!
I went to Mathcamp for 5 whole weeks, and it was incredibly fun. It was held at Reed College. Basically, I spent most of the day attending really awesome and kickass math lectures. Some of them seriously blew my mind. (Some, of course, I barely understood >___>). But not only do I feel like I learnt a lot, the entire experience of living together with 120 other high school students who share many of the same interests as you is just incredible. We also had JC's (undergrads, basically like counselors), mentors (grad students), and a few other faculty members.
I do some competitive math during the school year, but lately I feel like I've been slipping a lot, and this whole experience definitely gave me some more motivation to work hard this year! (Of course I'll still be "wasting time" reading manhua/translating)
So, interesting thing, I started out with a single dorm room, but it turned out that two of my friends had the most ENORMOUS room ever, and basically we had slumber parties in it everyday... 5 people in one enormous dorm room, so we stayed up really late, and I ended up as the only person who got up in time for breakfast, so I was designated breakfast obtainer hahaha. But that was all right, even if I did get a few funny looks for getting 5 bagels for breakfast.
I do really miss it, but I know I'll be seeing some people pretty soon, because I'm flying to Massachusetts next month for a math competition, so that's pretty cool :)
Since I came back, I've been working on summer homework (or not working). I have this giant paper that is staring me in the face, but I keep procrastinating because I don't want to do it >___> Ugh. I need to start working.

Hey guys, I know a lot of you have been asking for updates, so let me give you a quick briefing on the scanslation situation! Here it is!
Angie and I have both had a lot on our plates, what with her starting university, and me trying to scramble to catch other deadlines. So scanslation has fallen behind in our list of priorities, but all the pages are cleaned right now for The One, and are in the process of scanslation. I should be done with them soon! Sorry for the delay :[.
I will get a few VB Rose up ASAP. Is it okay if I do a double chapter next week instead of releasing one late this week?

First off, I would like to make a few things clear.
1. I get the raws as soon as they come out, as Marie (numero11) is so kind to send them to me. So there is not necessarily a need to send me notices that the raws are out--chances are I already know.
2. Please don't send me messages asking me when the next chapter of a series will be released. I cannot devote all my time to scanslating manhua. It is neither a paid job, nor is it necessarily beneficial to me outside of enjoyment. The chapters will be released when I finish them. You can find all updates on the Projects page of my blog. I try to keep it updated.
3. I do indeed have a fabulous cleaner for The One, so thank you all for your offers, but I would like to stay with Angela, as she is doing a wonderful job. Otherwise, I do work alone, because I find that that is the most efficient thing for me to do. Occasionally, Grase does help me out with translations, but I am not currently looking for more staff. If I ever do need help, I will let you know in recruitment notices.
I also understand that not all of you do the above, which is great, so don't worry about it. You don't need to comment because it doesn't apply to you at all! I have a lot of great followers, and I appreciate your continued readership!

The Future of Next Month's Scanslations!
So, as some of you may know, I will be gone for 5 weeks starting in July. So, in order not to leave you guys hanging on good story lines, I have scanslated like mad and queued several new chapters for you. Since I have actually simply scheduled them to reduce my stress, I can tell you guys which days will be release dates!

WHOA, did you know that...
my last post was my 100th post! Wow, totally did not expect to get so far, but thank you all for your continued readership and kind words. I really appreciate all the messages I get, and I do read them all, though I don't always reply. Anyway, I thought I'd post a personal update.
The last day of school was out yesterday! Whoohoo! How exciting. Now I get to do lots of fun things, not. I have summer homework and other stuff, but overall, it's not too bad. I'm really actually looking forward to this break, though I suspect it will pass all too quickly.
My finals went well--thank you all for asking. I hope everyone else in school did well on their finals and are now enjoying the beautiful summer break! Unless, of course, you live in the Southern hemisphere. In that case, keep warm this winter. Not sure how your school works though. Sorry. If you do live south of the equator, let me know how everything works :)
I'll definitely have a lot more time to work on manhua translations. I'm just going to waste a few days first lazing around. I went to the mall today with my mother to buy a gift for someone, so that was really fun. Wasting my hard-earned money. YEY! I don't feel too bad... mostly because I just got a paycheck so I feel entitled to spend some of it haha.
I will be going away for most of July; I'm going to math camp heehee! It's okay if some of you think that's lame. I'll still enjoy it. I will still try to keep up updates, but you may see some tardiness if I cannot get The One translated at camp. I will still try to prepare some chapters of VB Rose and Paradise City so that I can release them while I am away.

The One Chp 78

WAHHHH This is so exciting alsdkfj;alskdjf. Hahaha sorry, this is the crazy fangirl here. I totally love that Eros is being so childish here, especially because he's seeing his mom in his hallucinations. However, I almost think that there may be some Lele/Mom comparison here? Slightly Oedipal... but whatever.
I feel vindicated also that Lele says, "I know in my heart that you never wanted to hurt me." After the supposed "attempted rape," tons of people began hating on Eros for doing that. It was always really clear to me that he did that to protect her--both from his father and from her own feelings. Obviously, some of that must have backfired on him, and you see that with him being super depressed (especially in the last chapter). Lele obviously can't find it within herself to hate him for so long, and I love that she's becoming so playful in response to his misanthropic tendencies <-- haha big words.
Also, maybe people are going to yell at Eros for being such a jerk to Lele right now, but imagine if you were him, in such a weak and pitiful condition. You're going through withdrawal and weak and hallucinating about your dead mother. I can't imagine a worse time to have the girl you like see you. He's just being defensive. Don't blame him...
I think that this is really the beginning of a good relationship. Of course, there will be tons of drama, but they honestly got together wayyy faster than I had expected. I know that many people probably complained about their relationship too slowly. But now you really have nothing to complain about haha. I also look forward to seeing what happens with Feidna!!!! Let me know your thoughts in the comments! What predictions/hopes do you have for the future?

Desire Climax Review

Artwork: 9/10
The artwork truly is very lovely. It's really cute in a lot of places, and makes certain male characters appropriately attractive haha. I do love how she does distinguish between several different characters well. (I will get into that later). There are no weird confusing bits where characters look too similar. It is not overly cutesy at all (no flowers all over the place), but it was a little inconsistent in the beginning.
Plot: 4/10
I don't want to spoil anything too much, but the plot was all over the place. I read in a forum that someone thought that it was cool that this had so many plot twists. In my opinion, it had too many. It was really inconsistent, and this series changed so much within such a short span of time that by the end, it was not the manga I had started reading. It was almost about an entirely different subject matter entirely. The family conflict in the end was so cliche, and though you can see the mangaka did foreshadow it, you could see it coming obviously coming a million miles away. I was really disappointed with how many weird plot twists were thrown in such a short time. I wish it had stayed true to its original feel, because it seemed to turn in a completely different direction afterwards.
Characters: 6/10
Overall, characters were likeable, but so dramatic all of the time! And it was really obvious on the mangaka's part for many of the plot twists. I felt that a lot of the arcs were such stretches, and overly dramatic. While this does mean that the characters are vivid, I think that they are too exaggerated most of the time. In addition, it does bother me a little about their relationship--it is somewhat abusive, and rather disturbing.
Overall Appeal: 7/10
The reason I give this overall score so high is that I really like the series and the entire original premise. However, the rest of the series was very disappointing because I really did not expect many of the things the mangaka did. I wish it had not been so disappointing, but otherwise, I did really enjoy reading it. I must warn that it does have some sex in it, so if you don't want to read that, you are forewarned. Also, the title is super awkward haha, but you at least get the idea.
So a few other things I wanted to say.

V.B. Rose Chapter 47
So... sorry for the delay in "The One." Angie (my cleaner) is currently undergoing stressful finals. Buena suerte! And I am undergoing AP tests BOOO. Only two more APs, and one more IB test. But then again, one of the APs is Chinese... HAHAHHAHA. Anyway, here's a chapter of VB Rose to distract you guys. I currently have Vol. 9-11 in my possession, but I need to find out what I'm doing with Vol 10-11, because if you remember, there was another girl who wanted to scan them, but I have no idea where she is now, because I haven't contacted her in forever. English is the most bizarre language.
It's true. English is neither a romance language nor a Germanic one. It's stuck between two origins, and has crazy irregularities and strange phrases. I honestly feel terribly sorry for whoever has to learn English as a second language. It makes no sense whatsoever.
Chinese is a hard language to learn and it's very different structurally, but things generally follow a pattern. Same thing with French and Spanish (which, I have an A in yessss due to the fact my teacher accidentally put in 26/37 instead of 36/37 on a test hahahhahaha).
This is the most pointless post ever, but I really don't want to do my homework. BOOOO. It's a good assignment (creative writing), but I'm not feeling it at the moment. I just feel kinda stressed because it's not done haha. Whooohoooooo.
Yeah... I should probably get going haha. One last thing I should mention! I'm curious about your demographics, so vote here ------------------->
I see that one of you is underage. -disapproval- Be careful on the interwebs! Strangers (like me!) could very well trick you!
For people wondering about when The One is released, again, it is released every month on the 5th in China, and is usually scanned within a few days. I usually translate it within 1-2 days. So expect each chapter to arrive on the 10-15th of the month. The next chapter will be in May! There is no such thing as weekly updates for this series.

Spring Break! Wanna know something grosssss?
I burned the roof of my mouth and then a blister formed and then it popped. Hahahaha. None of you wanted/needed to know that. Sorry. It's really painful though. Crazy stuff is going on with my mouth. Especially because I have a cut on my lip boooooo. So I just look super awkward with my lips pursed... all the time. Hahaha. Anyway, it's spring breakkkkk! Hooray! I should do homework, but I haven't done a personal post in such a long time!
How is everyone doing? Is it spring break for anyone else? Are you enjoying the warmer weather? Hopefully it's warmer... It's still cool over here! It doesn't really matter because it's sunny! It actually snowed in some places over here, which is sort of bizarre, but then again, it's due to global warming, and you really don't want to listen to me rant about global warming haha.
Nothing is really new with me. Just have a whole bunch of school work culminating at the end of the year. BOOOOOO. STUPID AP/IB TESTS. Those who live in USA (or Canada? not sure...) will know the joys of AP testing. NOT. THERE ARE NO JOYS IN STANDARDIZED TESTING. It's just super boring and time-consuming.
What about everyone else? How is spring going? Let me know in the comments below!
On a more relevant note, I'm working on chapter 76 of "The One" right now and it's cracking me up HAHAHAHHAHAHAHA. I'm dying of laughter. It's hilarious, and I feel like I'm in a fantasy world because things are HAPPENING. HOLY SMOKES NICKY LEE! THINGS ARE HAPPENING!!!! This almost makes up for the months of 13 page chapters that are all pictures of trees lol. Anyway, I'm getting through these pages pretty quickly. I should have the chapter done by tonight, and I'll upload tonight or tomorrow.
I'm still at the same place in Paradise City that I was a month or two ago. Haha. Sorry. Would you guys like a chapter NOW, and risk waiting later, or just wait for regular updates? But I am for sure going to work on that project. Hooray!
Besides those two, I will be working on VB Rose as always, and maybe Mixed Vegetables? It was suggested to me through the manhua suggestions page, and I do know that the English volumes are out because it IS licensed. However... technically VB Rose is licensed as well....... Which means I will probably bend the rules for you guys haha. I'm a terrible person.
I also would like to remind readers that I keep project statuses updated above at the projects page. It's usually pretty up to date. I do check for raws regularly, and I would like to thank numero11 for sending me recent chapters of The One, which have been unavailable on Tieba! We had a huge discussion in the Chinese forums on this, so I managed to post chp. 76 there.
Anyway, enough ramblings. See you soon, and happy reading!

I know you have been waiting for this chapter, but I have been through two academic papers and have a presentation on Thursday ^-^ So excuse me if I haven't edited in all of the sfx on the last few pages. Trust me, they weren't that interesting anyway haha.
Everybody was good last time and didn't post early, so I will keep the download up. Thanks for the cooperation guys. I really want blog readers to get first priority on chapters!

It really is very refreshing to see such support, and I want you all to know that I really am grateful. You are all so very kind to me, so I am happy to translate efficiently. This is why I HAVE posted the download link, but please do not abuse it. I hope you understand that this is to thank blog readers. I love talking to all of you, so here is something just for you.
Now I probably should start my homework :D I've worked 5 straight hours on this hahahhaha.

Things I've Been Reading Recently
- Steel Rose: My goodness, I'm starting to dislike Leting a lot more. She's really a bitch, and pretty stuck up and rude as well. I used to think she was a cool strong female protagonist, but she's just annoying now.
- Silver: I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. I like the beginning particularly because of the premise. The recent chapters seem to have declined in quality a little; they're mostly just sex scenes o__o". It seems a little overboard/unnecessary. I think I may start reading more Josei because of their more developed plots.
- Paradise City: So random haha. I haven't gotten very far, but I'm liking it so far. All the characters are so colorful!
- Faster Than a Kiss: I came back to this series after not reading it for a while, and while it is cliche, and not the best story ever, I like reading it. It's fun and cute, not really serious reading.
What have YOU been reading? What have you liked so far?

Think of Japan--Please Read
I'm sure many of you have heard about the destruction caused by the recent earthquake and resulting tsunami in Japan. I'm not sure if any Japanese people read this blog (given that they already have tons of manga even without English translations), but I sincerely hope that you are all safe, and not only those who live in Japan because I know the earthquake was felt by a lot more people who live in that area.
Even over here, on the West coast of the United States, many people are afraid for aftershocks (though I do think we're okay). I was going to ask you to donate to the cause here, so that the readers of this blog could put together a nice sum together in exchange for my working harder a bit by putting out chapters, but I have recently read this. So instead of texting whatever to the Red Cross, I'm thinking donating to Americares, which according to this, has a pre-existing commitment to Japan. I would also love it if I could raise money to donate to Doctors Without Borders.
So please, if you have any money at all to spare, even spare change, please donate. Though natural disasters are truly a devastating thing, it also represents an opportunity for people of all places in the world to remember what it is to be commonly human. It may be too idealistic for me to expect that wars will stop and we will all work together in a united goal, but I do know that we can do what we can in disasters. I know that not all of you may have money to spare, but even a little bit would be very helpful. I have 56 followers on the blog, and probably more regular readers as well. Even if you can't manage the $10 that the Red Cross is asking for, a dollar would help once we pool our resources.
I will probably choose between Americare and Doctors Without Borders. If you have a preference, please let me know.
