Finding Motivation

Recently, I've been feeling stuck in a rut. In such a state, it's hard to get up and do anything. I suppose that procrastination plagues even the most hardworking and best of us. But it's certainly hit me hard, especially when it counts right now.

Has this happened to any of you recently? What have you done to help yourself start working again? I need some advice so that I can sort my own life out a bit :)

Everything is just a little chaotic now. I hope you are all doing well xx

On a side note, I unexpectedly got into a summer program that I applied for. It's like a research summer camp for math/science, and I was definitely not expecting to get accepted. So it's definitely a pleasant surprise, but I think I'm still feeling a bit unhappy at the moment. Meh, I didn't intend for this to be a self-pity party, but it is what it is. If you have tips for that too, let me know :)

Anyways, anything exciting happening in your lives?

  1. I find that exercising helps me, but everyone needs a little R&R now and then. Read a relaxing and fun book. I like Undead and Unwed by MaryJanice Davidson.

I'm going to a small gathering of friends tomorrow. I also need to update my own blog -_-; so I know how you feel.

  2. Hello! I'm from Argentina. I read 'The One'and i want to thank you how with all your problems, you still uploading the chaphters. You are awesome :)
Well, i guess that you can make a list. Write in one columne things that you think that are going wrong, then in other columne, write things that you can gain for your efforts. Like pros and cons...
Hey, If you find out what's going on, it will be better to find an answer, a solution. Remember that everyone it's diferent, so you have your time, your daily chart and the same goes for the rest. So, don't feel bad if you don't reach them quickly, you can do wathever you propose, at your time (But not being lazy...). Listening music or doing one or two hours of your eavorite stuffs can relax you. Sleeping well and having your meals is also good. Don't look a lot on bad thing, you have to consider them, just that. If you let bad thinking get in your head that will depresed you even more!! Crying helps to xD

Well, thats my little word-help haha. I'm sorry if theres a word misspelled, i love to read english but i kinda suck in the writting xD
Hey, love your job here, take your time i'll wait patiently.

  3. Hmm, if you feel as if you're stuck in a rut, that's cos you're probably not doing something you enjoy. So, take some time off, and do something fun. It helps to do some activities outdoors, and commune with mother nature. A walk in the park helps, and if you're living in Singapore, then visit Bt Timah reserve. Spend a day at the beach. Well, whatever rocks your boat!

  4. Unfortunately there is no trick to finding motivation =(
If you were a religious person I'd say you should pray.
But if you're not then you could try meditating.

But in the end... who knows what helps... =(

  5. Hahaha! Man, I always have the worst cases of procrastination. I like to leave notes around to remind me of things. But, well, that's not really for procrastination, is it? Sorry, can't be much help on that. If anything, I most likely need help more than you do. Anyways, I hope you have fun in that math/science research camp. As for the procrastination, if it's not a usual thing for you, then maybe it'll just go away over time. It's probably your mind reminding you that you need to relax every now & then. =)

  6. Cheer up !!!!

    Procrastination, I know it's sucks.
I think going out it's a good trick also. Sports, shopping, nature whatsoever the main thing is to push yourself out. Doing stupid things is also the best.
    So enjoy. Fightingggggg !!!!!

  7. Aaaaw we're in the same situation. Belive me, exactly the same! Well mine is a bit more complicated and serious i guess but i seem to be able to overcome recently (after 2 years -_- ) so here are some advices for all procrastinators out there.
-Sports! It is a must! You need some big amount of serotonin right now. Sports will definetly refresh you. (No chocolate no no no!)
-Push yourself out. I'm a home-loving person and lately i understand that this is not something to boast about.
-Music is a perfect tranquilizer and as you tranquilize your soul you refresh your body, trust me. If you have chance, try to play an instrument. I feel like jumping from happiness when i'm playing piano even though i'm just a beginner.
-Read, read, read! Books & manga(or manhua) are great help to keep your spirits up.
-Do not try to mean everything. Carpe Diem is not that bad :)

  8. you have to talk yourself out of it. Reflect what might be the consequences of your procrastination and will this help you as an individual? Picture yourself in the future and what might procrastination do to you and your success.

  9. I'll tell you something a guy told me some time ago, when nothing seemed to make me happy. It won't do a miracle but it might help you. Go out, look around yourself, try to see how great small things are, shout, cry, run, do not hold anything inside because if it is something small it might grow bigger and bigger. If you love or respect what you do, you have to try to remember it (even if you're feeling like stuck in a rut) and tell yourself that you're doing the best you can.
Sometimes we have to find motivation everyday. At the moment I'm having troubles gaining information and other stuff for my thesis. Sometimes I feel really useless and incompetent and don't know what to do and don't want to do anything... but deep inside I know I have to struggle and persevere and I keep repeating it like a mantra trying not to forget it ;)
don't worry too much, you'll be able to sort your life!! :)

  10. I totally hear you sista....>O< absolutely skipped my workout today and now procrastinating on doing my hmwk (which is drawing/painting- something I USED to like..it'll I took this program for it)...for me there's no trick to get over procrastination; I still do everything at the last min xp - guess the best thing to do is to trick yourself the 'due dates' of your assignment - but of course that is almost impossible to do xp

  11. Hi Kat! I think everyone at one point of their lives have felt the way you´re feeling right now...so, you are definitely not alone! I guess no one has the perfect answer, but I think that trying to do something different, something that you usually don´t do can help you remember how fun little things can be. For example, you can try learning something new, like salsa or whatever, doing exercises, like swimming, going for a hike or something like that...and in extreme cases, even praying does help a lot! All these little things might help you release the stress that you might not even know that you have. Anyways, I am sure that this time will pass that´s for sure!
    Hugs ;)

  12. Hey Kat,

I totally know how you feel. I sometimes get like this when school and work and life in general is just too overwhelming. I usually find a way to treat myself. Sometimes that means I go to barnes & noble to get a book, or to see a movie, I get some really good food. GGive yourself a day off to just relax and chill. It works wonders. :) Good luck!

  13. i totally understand what you're feeling. usually, when i don't feel like doing something, i wait till the absolute last minute to do it (recently found out that doesn't work when studying for a spanish final). if i'm in a really horribly bleh mood, i watch stupid indian movies because indians know how to make a dumb but incredibly fun film. since you probably don't speak hindi, watch a stupid american film. mocking it will make you feel just that much better.

  14. Meditation is best cure,1st step, lay down on the floor make sure your comfy, cover your eyes,2nd loosen up your joints rolling them back & forwards, breathing slowly not to hard cause you'll spin out, lift your lower back then drop slowly,3rd dream of your favorite place, could be an island or the beach or whatever breath slowly let your senses do the talking eg;smell, hearing ,inner eye, taste ,then float so to speak, when you want to come out roll to your right side & open your eyes slowly (blink) make sure you drink lots of water after.
    Thats the yogy way, .
